1294 Withstood Winter siege by Madog ap Llywelyn.

1399 Temporary haven for Richard II.

1401 Held for several months by forces loyal to Owain Glyndwr.

1642 - 1646 Held by Royalist forces loyal to Charles I.

1646 Surrendered to Parliamentary forces.

1665 Completely ruined and stripped of resources.

1826 Road bridge constructed, increasing tourist numbers.

1848 Rail bridge constructed, increasing tourist numbers.

1865 Passed from Holland family to civic leadership of Conwy town.

1953 Castle leased to Ministry of Works. Wide range of repairs and research in to castle's history carried out.

1958 Second road bridge built.

1986 Declared a UNESCO World Heritage site.

2012 New visitor centre opened.
